Serving Slovakia Details

Welcome!

In 2007, 22 people from New Heights Church headed to Martin, Slovakia, unsure of what was ahead of them. They found a beautiful country, gracious people, the adventure of a lifetime, and a newfound understanding of who God is and how He works in the lives of His people, everywhere.

Serving Slovakia is a short-term mission experience for individuals 18 years of age or older (individuals younger than 18 may be considered if traveling with a parent), that provides an opportunity to see God at work while sharing the love of Christ with the people of Slovakia. This is an exciting and fulfilling way to see how the body of Christ works and how God can use you to make a difference in the lives of others.

Purpose of the Trip

Partnering with our friends at the Center for Christian Education, (cce.sk), we’ll be spending 2 weeks (July 3-19) in Martin, Slovakia. During our time there, we’ll be teaching conversational English to Slovak citizens from the surrounding area, as well as serving and encouraging our friends at the CCE and the local church. Training meetings, which take place prior to departure, will include training for the English classes, spiritual preparation, and cultural/travel information. No prior EFL/ESL experience is required – just the ability to carry on a conversation!

Team

Our team will consist of 35 people: 3-5 EFL teachers; 25-30 conversational “coaches”.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Servant heart.
  • Flexible spirit.
  • 18 years of age or over. (Exceptions can be made for those traveling with an adult.)

Serving Slovakia Commitments & Requirements

We ask that you be:

  • Committed to Christ by developing and growing in faith.
  • Committed to serving our Slovak students, your fellow team members and the staff of the CCE.
  • Committed to attending training meetings.
  • Committed to prayer and establishing a prayer team that will faithfully pray for you and the team.

Training

We’ll have five large-group training meetings as well as training for the individual teams. These meetings will include training for the EFL classes, spiritual preparedness, and cultural/travel information.

Lodging

The CCE will be arranging lodging for us, which will be included in the overall cost.

Cost

Actual cost will be determined once group size is known and reservations are made. At this point, we estimate the cost will be from $2,500 – 2,800. Cost includes airfare, lodging, breakfast, lunch, transportation and sightseeing trips. Most dinners are on your own (average cost: $5-8 per meal) although some will be included with various trips. We do have access to two kitchens, and grocery stores are within walking distance.
